THE INFLUENCE

Folklórico has been around since the days of the Mexican revolution and it's influence has not slowed down. This dance started out as a pride for the Mexican people but that tradition has followed its people across borders. Folklórico dance serves as a bridge through which past and cultural elements from today are intertwining and evolving. Folklórico dance reflects the historical, social, and political dynamics of the communities it represents, particularly in regions near the national borders. Folklórico started in Mexico by the common people allowing Mexico to build themselves with an image of being representative of the people. In the United States, it was far more complex. Initially, folklórico was nonexistent other than in Chicano groups. For Chicanos it was a tool who at that time, 1960s, were standing up to show their opposition to Anglo dominance and using the dance as a form of protest. Folklórico is the U.S. not as intense and is widely accepted. A tradition that has made it out of the home nation and continues to persevere in another.
